The findings of a new study show that people sit for a whopping 13 hours per day, on average. Plus 8 hours of sleep at night, this totals to 21 hours of physical inactivity out of every 24 hours. Medical pandits have long warned that prolonged sitting is very dangerous, associated with a higher risk of heart diseases, diabetes, obesity, muscle and joint problems. Specialists also believe inactivity negatively affects blood circulation and the immune system, as well. Due to sedentary lifestyle people also do not get the boost in energy, mood and sleep quality that comes from regular activity. “We have developed our workplaces, work from home desks and even our children’s schools in a fashion that are actually profoundly unhealthy. It’s called design failure.”
